About the plant

The Kolín plant opened in 2005 as TPCA, a Toyota–PSA joint venture, and has been wholly owned by Toyota Motor Europe since January 2021. It builds the Aygo X and the Yaris, and has produced more than 4.5 million cars in twenty years. The original investment was 25 billion Kč, one of the largest ever made in the Czech economy.

In August 2025 Toyota announced a further 17 billion Kč, plus 1.5 billion in state support, to make Kolín its only European site building mid-size battery electric vehicles. Three new halls are planned, including one for batteries, along with about 250 new jobs.

What it pays

Toyota Kolín publishes blue-collar averages, and they are among the highest in Czech industry. The 2025 rise was imposed unilaterally by the company while collective bargaining was still unresolved.

  • A union representing maintenance staff terminated the collective agreement in July 2024

Recent news

July 2024The independent maintenance union unilaterally terminated the collective agreement, citing chronic understaffing in maintenance since April 2022, excessive workload and fatigue, forced weekend overtime, threats to recall staff from holiday, and inadequate training when new technology was introduced. A letter to the company president in April 2024 went unanswered.
June 2024Memorandum with the town of Kolín: 651 of the 851 company flats transfer to municipal ownership by 2026.
March 2025Company raised tariffs 7.1% unilaterally, 9.2% including bonuses, while bargaining was still open.
September 2025After almost a year, collective bargaining ended with no new agreement. The old 2023 agreement remains in force. The Ministry of Labour declined to appoint a mediator.
August 202517 billion Kč EV investment announced, plus 1.5 billion in state aid.

Can a foreign worker get in here?

Toyota Kolín uses agency staff on the line — the adverts through ManpowerGroup confirm it — but publishes no figures on numbers or nationality. The unresolved collective bargaining and the union's account of understaffing in maintenance are worth weighing: they describe a plant under load.

Agency hiring confirmed, foreign share unpublished. Strong pay, unsettled labour relations.

Getting there

The plant is in the Kolín-Ovčáry industrial zone on the edge of Kolín, a town of about 30,000, roughly 60 km east of Prague with regular rail and bus links to the capital.

Where workers live

Historically the plant's biggest advantage: TPCA built 851 flats for staff with rent increases capped at inflation for twenty years. That fund is being transferred to the town — 651 flats by 2026 — leaving only 200 in company hands. New arrivals should not assume company housing is available.

Can I apply directly instead of through an agency?

If you are already legally resident in Czechia, yes — apply on the company careers page. From outside the EU it is much harder, because a direct application rarely covers employee card sponsorship, and that is the part an agency arranges.
