🇸🇪 Jobs in Sweden for Indians

You can work in Sweden without speaking Swedish and without a Swedish employer sponsoring you — but not by applying directly. The route that works runs through a Czech work permit and an A1 posting, and it is the same route thousands of workers use every year.

Why applying to Sweden directly usually fails

Smaller demand than Germany or the Netherlands, but the highest pay of the three destinations.

ObstacleWhat it means for you
No statutory minimumPay is set by collective agreement per sector. That is good for wages but means an employer cannot simply offer you 'the minimum' — they must fit you into an agreed grade.
Distance and costLiving costs are high and the initial outlay is larger than in Czechia or Germany.
Fewer postingsCzech employers post workers to Sweden less often than to Germany. Treat it as an opportunity that may come up, not a plan.

None of these obstacles exist in the Czech Republic, and the Czech Republic sits in the same single market as Sweden.

The A1 posting route, in four steps
1 Czech employer A real job with a company registered in Czechia
2 Employee card Combined residence and work permit, 60–90 days
3 A1 certificate Your employer applies; you stay in Czech social security
4 Work in Sweden No Swedish language required. Your Czech employer posts you on an A1 certificate.

You never apply for a German visa. EU Regulation 883/2004 lets a Czech employer post you to another member state while you remain insured in Czechia.

What Sweden pays

Sweden sets no statutory minimum wage — pay floors come from sector collective agreements and are generally high.

Where the work is. Construction, industrial assembly and logistics. Postings tend to be project-based.

A word of caution on numbers: during a posting you are paid the host country's sector minimum, which is well above the Czech rate but is not the same as a full local employment contract. Anyone quoting you a full Swedish salary for a posted role is overselling it.

What applies specifically to Indians

Quota

600 applications per year for the whole of Czechia, under the Qualified Employee Programme.

A tight quota means timing matters more than anything else. Slots are allocated first come, first served and are regularly exhausted before the year ends.

Where you apply

Czech embassy in New Delhi. The sixteen VFS Global centres across India handle Schengen visas only — employee card applications are lodged at the embassy in person.

Documents

India is a Hague Convention member, so documents need an apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs, not consular legalisation. Police clearance comes through the Passport Seva network.

Leaving India

India's ECR system requires emigration clearance for eighteen countries, mostly in the Gulf. Czechia is not on that list, so no exit permission is needed.

11,853 Indian nationals legally resident in Czechia as of March 2026 — sixth largest third-country group, up around 14% in fifteen months.

Frequently asked questions

Can Indian citizens work in Sweden?

Legally yes, but not easily by applying directly. Pay is set by collective agreement per sector. That is good for wages but means an employer cannot simply offer you 'the minimum' — they must fit you into an agreed grade. The realistic route for shop-floor work is a Czech employee card followed by an A1 posting, which places you on a Swedish site without a Swedish visa.

Do I need to speak Swedish?

Not on the posting route. Neither the Czech employee card nor an A1 posting has a language requirement. Applying directly to a Swedish employer usually does.

What is the quota situation?

For India: 600 applications per year for the whole of Czechia, under the Qualified Employee Programme. This is the single most important constraint and almost no agency mentions it.

Where do I apply?

Czech embassy in New Delhi. The sixteen VFS Global centres across India handle Schengen visas only — employee card applications are lodged at the embassy in person.

What documents need legalising?

India is a Hague Convention member, so documents need an apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs, not consular legalisation. Police clearance comes through the Passport Seva network.

Do I need permission from India to leave?

India's ECR system requires emigration clearance for eighteen countries, mostly in the Gulf. Czechia is not on that list, so no exit permission is needed.

What does Sweden pay compared with Czechia?

Sweden sets no statutory minimum wage — pay floors come from sector collective agreements and are generally high. During a posting you are entitled to the host country's minimum terms for your sector.

How long does the whole thing take?

Ten to sixteen weeks from signed contract to your first shift in Czechia. A posting abroad normally becomes available later, once you have an established employment relationship.
